of Palms Park)

Cape Coral is the
largest city in the Southwest region of Florida - also
called the Venice of America, but has 20 times more canals
than Venice, Italy -
it is located on a peninsula and has the highest number of canals
compared to any other city on this planet. It is a
modern lagoon city with a variety of bodies of water and 400 miles of
navigable waterways, 200 of which flow into the Gulf of Mexico. From
our dock, this relaxing, no-wake canal cruise is just a 20-minute,
scenic boat ride to open water.
The year-round
mild climate allows for a variety of recreational activities,
including boating, canoeing, kayaking, parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, fishing, snorkeling,
golfing, tennis, hiking, jogging and cycling, to name a few. The
city has a great infrastructure with a lot of shopping facilities
that will excite all shopping fans. Cape Coral is connected with
Fort Myers through two
spectacular bridges so that you can reach
almost any
Fort Myers destination in under a half hour.
Come and enjoy one of the most
beautiful places in Florida on the west coast, voted the '6th Best
Place to Live' (according to 'Money Magazine' from 300 selected
cities in the USA). No
doubt you’ll be certain to be captivated by some of the magnificent Florida
sunrises and sunsets that can be viewed on the 335 days of sunshine
that Cape Coral enjoys annually.
The
Southwest Florida's Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel area
contain more than 100 barrier islands, more than 50 miles of
fine, white, sugar-sand beaches, and shelter some of the
world’s best shelling. Nearly 400 species of multi-colored
seashells found in the region range from the common scallop
to the rare brown speckled junonia. Peak season for shelling
is May through September. Sanibel Island is most renowned
for its shelling potential, but the activity is successfully
pursued all along the Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel.
Captiva and Cayo Costa islands are noted for starfish,
conchs and sand dollars. Seashells are often hidden just
beneath the surface of sand where the surf breaks, and can
be collected by wading or snorkeling along the surf line. A
wide plateau of shallow water adjoins Sanibel on the south
side, and the gradual slope of the Gulf of Mexico acts like
a ramp to encourage shells to roll onto the beach –
especially when driven in by northwestern storm-fronts. Such
storms are common in December and January when cold fronts
pass through. While there’s never a bad time to shell,
optimum collecting occurs in early morning, low tide, and
after storms.
Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve is spread
over a huge area of 365 acres of mangrove swamps and pure
wetlands along the Caloosahatchee River. The preserve has
many attractive features like 4,500 foot walking nature
trail, serene picnic area, visitor’s center, perfect
canoeing and kayaking waterways.
Or you may choose to head out
on the Gulf for deep sea fishing, or take to the back country and
fish our mangrove islands for trout, snook, and redfish. Popular,
knowledgeable, local guides are available for fly, artificial, and
live bait fishing.
And the best kept secret is that in May, June, October, and
November, you have the warm Gulf waters all to yourself, and that
Summer brings the afternoon Gulf breezes to lucky islanders!
